Because you were born from the people / the people love you

“It is 11/04/2024. I know from today that this date will be eternally marked in my red-and-white heart. I was waiting for you, gabarra. You have resisted for 40 years. I had only heard of you from Aita, the grandparents…but I had never seen you. Until now, lost finals and even a near-relegation to the second division. But today I feel relief and that it has all been worth it, because you are finally here. We athleticzales say that you cannot leave this world without experiencing a gabarra. It seems like an exaggeration. You will realize if you spend a moment in Bilbao, that it is not. We are a unique team in the world, a family, and that shows. We decided to be David, in a world of Goliaths and, most importantly, that is how it has remained throughout the centuries. Today, Athletic, you are a champion, I am prouder of you than ever. But I know I would never trade you for anything, win or lose.

My wish for the future, Athletic, is that you do not lose your essence. My wish for you, gabarra, is that you also fulfill the dream of future generations. And that you never part ways, because the second wish will never be the same if the first is not fulfilled.”
